The brief: With the Isle of Man sharing top billing with Cornwall at the 2015 Interceltique Festival in Lorient, France – an event that attracts over 800,000 people – we were asked to create a Manx-themed feature piece.
Solution: Triskelion (Three Legs of Mann) Bench
The Process
Consultation: We met with our client to discuss the exact requirements and to share ideas
Design: We then produced initial concept drawings in 3D for approval by the client, who then selected the colour and finish for the powder coating.
Manufacture: Our designer input the CAD drawing into the computer that runs our in-house CNC Plasma Cutter, which cuts directly from the CAD drawing.
Our highly-skilled technicians then assembled and welded each element by hand in our workshop.
The components were then sent for specialist powder coating in the agreed finishes.
Installation: Obviously, shipping the new work in one piece would be difficult so we created detailed instructions for on-site assembly. Normally we would provide a full fitting service, but France was a little too far with our current order books bulging!
Outcome: The Triskelion Bench created a truly unique focal point within the Isle of Man area of the festival. Perhaps the greatest compliment of all came later though… Lorient’s town council have now purchased the bench to permanently install in the town gardens. A lasting memorial to the Island’s contribution to the Interceltique Festival!
